The Artist’s Edition Linings

Introducing a new Atelier Munro project, where we asked three artists from across the world to create exclusive works on a different kind of canvas: the lining of our jackets. Possible to line every kind of jacket from our range, this limited release offers the chance to make any occasion feel special in the most understated way. The first drop explores the theme of movement across the sea, streets, and space. Available from Spring/Summer 2024.

Aerospace by Lennard Kok

Lennard Kok is an artist based in Utrecht who has previously collaborated with the likes of Apartamento Magazine, A.P.C. Paris, Apple, GQ, Hermès, The New Yorker, The New York Times, Sonos, The Times, and Wired Magazine. His work explores various media including illustraation, sculpture and installation and aims to tell visual stories with a simple, bare bones approach while maintaining the true essence of the idea.

“In 2013, I saw the Ghibli film "The Wind Rises", a film about a Japanese aviation engineer, Jiro Horikoshi. Midway through the film is a scene where a group of engineers are drawing blueprints for a new fighter plane. The blueprints themselves are enormously detailed and show various parts of the plane. These became the inspiration for my artwork.
Not the literal blueprints from the movie, but the way these technical two-dimensional drawings of aircraft are constructed. Besides the two-dimensional aircraft and aircraft parts, you can also find space and extraterrestrial vehicles in the design.”

Nautical by Olf de Bruin

Amsterdam-based Olf de Bruin is an illustrator and creator of ‘Van Bollebast tot Voortprinter’, an encyclopedia about a wonderful future for mankind inspired by transhumanism. His recognisable style is characterized by a clear color palette with attention for composition and detail. He has created work for artists, Dutch newspapers and magazines, as well as international brands including Red Bull and Triodos Bank.

“As a fashion enthusiast, I wanted to take an illustrative approach to a classic pattern. For this, I chose the pinstripe and replaced the stripes with sail rope. I then enhanced the design by adorning the ropes with various elements from yachting, creating a more spatial and dimensional effect. This gives the lining a classic yet playful appearance.”

Automotive by Nolan Pelletier

Nolan Pelletier is a Toronto-based illustrator and designer, who creates dynamic amalgamations of patterns, color, and esoteric detail. His work is digitally rendered with hand-made charm–you may have seen it in the New York Times, the New Yorker and collaborations with Netflix, Anna Sui, Away, and Hush Puppy. His expansive list of influences span geography and time, from Victorian ironwork and Persian miniatures to Art Deco and medieval manuscripts—all leveled in a contrasting palette of subdued pastels and bright colors.

“I like to use a lot of reference material in my art. For this piece I dug through early books about automobiles, from an era when owning a car was a luxury in itself. I especially liked the ads for motoring clothes: special outfits designed solely for motorists to wear while driving. I wanted my illustration to capture a bit of that early glamor and excitement that surrounded cars.”
