How to: get wedding ready in 2023

Between all the postponed ceremonies from the last few years and the newly engaged couples that keep on coming, 2023 is set to be a BIG one for weddings – and it’s due to all kick off this spring. For us, special days deserve nothing less and that means something crafted in fine materials, to the highest quality, that fits not only your form but your personal style too.

Whether you’re a groom or a guest, we’ve created a guide to getting your look together for the big day. From how to tailor your ensemble to the party to tips for ensuring it all goes off without a hitch.

Timing is everything

Deciding what to wear to a big event is stressful enough. Give yourself plenty of time so you’re not cutting it fine. We always recommend coming by for a fitting at least 8 weeks before the wedding to make sure you can explore the options, make your decision, and have any last adjustments made. That goes whether you’re creating a suit, shirt, shoes, or all of the above.

Know your code

Before getting started, the most important thing to know is the kind of wedding you’re attending. For grooms, that means having your venue and dress code locked in. If you have an idea of your wedding style and palette, even better. If you’re not sure where to start, we’ve created a lookbook with themes forecasted for the year: garden, modern, timeless, and traditional.

For guests, the invitation should tell you all you need to know – the location of the wedding and expected dress code will help you figure out what will be appropriate. We have something for every sort of celebration, from classic tuxedos and formal three-pieces to more modern options, so knowing this ahead of time will help ease the process.

Make an appointment

Like we said, there’s a lot of options to explore. We always suggest scheduling in with one of our style advisors to be guided through the possibilities. You can do this alone or with your partner (for moral support and a second opinion), or if you’re a groom we have special wedding events you can book into with a couple of groomsmen. It’s a rite of passage to kick off the celebrations together and get excited for what’s to come with a glass of champagne. Your style advisor will help you every step of the way. If you already know your budget and wedding palette, bring it along to help narrow the search.

Start with your suit

It will inform the rest of your look. Specifically, we’ll begin with fabric first. With over 500 to choose from, your options are almost endless. The right choice will come down to your priorities and the vibe of your celebration. Destination weddings demand breathability. Casual spring ceremonies may be more colorful and comfortable. Indoor formal? We’ll be looking for luxury fibers and aesthetics.

From there we’ll move on to the cut of your suit. Then you can start designing the details to your taste too: the collar, the buttons, even a monogram with your initials or the special date.

Don’t stop there

Your suit is only half of the equation. If you really want to elevate your look beyond the standard, curate your styling too. Quality shoes crafted for your event will take your outfit to another level, whether it’s patent loafers for your black-tie party or suede bluchers for a countryside wedding.

A handmade shirt is another subtle-but-surefire way to impress. A hot tip: order an extra shirt. That way you have a spare you can switch it out to feel fresh for the party.

Get a feel for it

Anything made-to-measure is an investment, so it’s important to make sure you’re happy with your choices. The best part about an appointment in store is you can actually feel all the fabrics and see what you like. There will also be try on samples to give you an idea of fit. It’s at this point that you’ll be measured to ensure whatever you’re buying will fit like a glove and feel comfy all day long.

Finish strong

Take the time to choose your accessories. The right set of cufflinks can make all the difference. There’s an art to picking the right fabric for your neckwear and pocket square too. You’ll have to decide if you want to get playful with a print, sophisticated with silk, or a favorite among our wedding clients: match the fabric of your shirt to your accessories for an enviable ‘put together’ look.

Before the big day

Don’t wait til the day to try everything on. We always recommend wearing your suit a few times beforehand to give it a chance to settle in and shape to your unique body. If you bought freshly made shoes, wear them in too. It’ll help you feel more comfortable and confident on the day.

Finally…

The hard work is done but looking picture perfect means getting all those last touches in order on the day. If you’re not sure how to fold your pocket square or tie your tie, pop into a store and ask for help. If it’s your wedding, you can also reach out to your style advisor to enquire about our morning service. We can meet you and your groomsmen wherever you’re getting ready and help with anything you need – last minute styling advice, ties, pocket squares, and pre-ceremony checks.
